Lara Markstein is a South African born New Zealander, currently living in the United States. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Harvard University, and received her Masters in Fine Arts from the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. Her work has appeared in Glimmer Train, Agni Online, The Michigan Quarterly Review, and the Greensboro Review, among others, and has been recognized by the Bank of New Zealand Katherine Mansfield Short Story Awards. Her latest work is forthcoming in The Chicago Quarterly Review and J Journal.
By day, Lara is a non-profit arts administrator. She serves as the Program Officer at the UC Berkeley Center for New Media, where she directs fantastic programs such as the Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium, the History and Theory of New Media Lecture Series, and various Bay Area festivals.
Lara recently left sunny Oakland, California, to return to Durham, NC, where she is attacking the barbecue with gusto.
