Lara Markstein is a South African born New Zealander, currently living in the United States. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Harvard University, and received her Masters in Fine Arts from the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. Her work has appeared in Glimmer Train, Agni Online, The Michigan Quarterly Review, and The Chicago Quarterly Review, among others, and has been recognized by the Bank of New Zealand Katherine Mansfield Short Story Awards and the Pushcart awards. Her latest story is forthcoming from the Santa Monica Review.
By day, Lara is a non-profit arts administrator. She serves as the Program Officer at the UC Berkeley Center for New Media, where she directs fantastic programs such as the Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium, the History and Theory of New Media Lecture Series, and various Bay Area festivals.
Lara lives in Durham, NC, with her husband, and can be found dodging the cars on her bicycle.
